SITUATION
“Laura” was referred to Wellworth by her trust and estate attorney. Her husband Ron came to us with dementia and a history of alcoholism. Laura has a chronic debilitating disease and needed help managing Ron’s care.
SUPPORT
We helped Ron get treatment for his alcoholism, found him a memory care program, and negotiated the fee. As we worked with Laura to help Ron, it became apparent that her needs were being overlooked. She had lost a great deal of weight, was depressed, guilt-ridden, and prone to panic attacks. We referred her to a neurologist.
RESULT
It turned out that what had initially appeared to be psychiatric and cognitive symptoms were related to a thyroid condition. We continue to advocate for Ron at the memory care facility. Laura was prescribed thyroid medications and nutritional support. This, in conjunction with an improved diet, helped her emerge from her depression feeling stronger and more motivated to reclaim her life.
