BUILDING TRUST
2 min read
Often, we work with clients referred to us by family offices and private wealth advisors. Our collaboration with them ensures a comprehensive approach, integrating financial and healthcare strategies to address complex personal needs while safeguarding their well-being.
Here’s a recent case study of a client we were able to assist. Names have been changed to protect confidentiality.
SITUATION
James is a 54-year-old man who lives in Chicago and suffers from severe schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He has a history of paranoia, compulsive spending, and medication non-compliance. To further complicate matters, James was separated from his wife due to a domestic violence injunction. The client’s financial advisors were great at managing his finances, but found his healthcare needs to be out of their area of expertise. They quickly realized they needed to hire Wellworth, a strong interdisciplinary team of clinical experts, to help manage the client’s health and medical needs. The wealth and health teams were able to work together to provide full support for the client.
SUPPORT
The first meeting with the financial team and his estranged wife was challenging, as the client refused help, insisting he didn’t need it. The Wellworth team initially focused on supporting the client's financial team and wife, gradually earning the client’s trust. Communication was kept open through texts, emails, and phone calls, with Wellworth as a gatekeeper for health-related expenses and decisions. A significant turning point came when Wellworth supported the client during a court case in January, where they were asked to be a witness. The client began to see Wellworth as genuinely supportive, not critical, which led to him opening up more.
RESULT
The relationship with Wellworth has continued for over a year, during which the client has made significant progress in his mental health journey at an inpatient facility in California. This progress is attributed mainly to Wellworth's persistent efforts to slowly build trust, maintain open communication, and address the client’s unique needs. The client’s wife and the financial team have come to deeply appreciate Wellworth’s invaluable role in managing this complex situation.
If you know someone who needs mental health support and guidance while navigating the healthcare system, reach out to Wellworth.
